Helmets

We would like to take this opportunity to discuss our policy on helmets. Many of you may feel that you do not need to wear a helmet on the ride. You are absolutely right, IF your head is made of steal! But we are guessing that most of you are quite susceptible to the injuries that may occur should you go sprawling off of your bike. If you do fall, you will hit your head. You will smack it on the rocks that are on the road, in the road, and beside the road. Bear in mind that these are the same rocks that blew out $450 dollars worth of heavy duty truck tires a few years back! Head injuries generally screw up your ability to think clearly and bleed like the dickens. They will most certainly ruin a good jersey. All that blood loss will contribute to whatever dehydration you may be suffering already and, if it gets in your eyes, it will affect your ability to see. It also tends to hurt a great deal. And if you break your bike or anything else you will have to wait for someone to come get you. There isn't much fun in waiting on the side of some obscure hillside in the middle of nowhere while buzzards and coyotes watch you, estimating the time it will take them to reduce you to a small pile of bones. Remember, buzzards and coyotes always start with the softest body parts first. Just in case you cannot figure it out, yes helmets are required.
