Flats on the Sags
We will never complain about those wonderful people who volunteer to take their vehicle and rove the route looking for lost souls. But, you are entitled to a fair warning. We know that one year there were at least 14 flat tires and 3 of those were on one vehicle. Common sense here indicates that it is not wise to roam around these hills with bald tires on your vehicle! So, if your tires are marginal, don't go careening about with wild abandon in the Flint Hills. As a general rule, the effective speed limit on all of these roads is about 35 mph MAX!!! In the really rocky sections, it is suggested that you drop down to about 25 mph. The slower you go, the less damage rocks will do to your tires. Just because you have some high dollar, 4-wheel drive, do not assume you can go blasting down these roads at 60 mph! Well, you can blast down these roads; it's just that you won't do it for very long.
