Bad Bugs
One year a rider went down and banged up his elbow pretty good. He had a laceration that punctured his elbow. He got it taken care of and went on his merry way. There was only one problem. He picked up some germs that got into his system and landed him in the hospital for a day or so. This is nothing new to those of us who are old road bike riders, we have stories about some poor cyclist who goes down in a crash, gets a road rash, does not clean it well enough, and gets a nasty infection.
We don't think that you are any more or any less likely to have this happen on this event. But, we do think it is safe to say the conditions exist to where it might be just a little more likely that you might crash your bike, leading to even a minor scrape or injury.
Just be aware that if you do crash (anywhere), take the time to get cleaned up properly and get medical attention. There are plenty of nasty bugs out there these days.
